ITSUS
Intelligent Tutoring System for Undergraduate Statistics
Our goal is to design a learning technology that support undergraduate statistics learning in the following aspects:
|
What is statistics anxiety?
According to Onwuegbuzie, DaRos, and Ryan (1997), statistics anxiety is the anxiety that occurs when individuals encounter statistics in any form and at any time. Statistics anxiety involves “a complex array of emotional reactions which, in mild forms, may induce only a minor discomfort. Severe forms, however, can result in negative outcomes, such as apprehension, fear, nervousness, panic, and worry”

The impact of statistics anxiety?
Hsu, Wang, and Chiu (2009) studied statistics anxiety with online MBA students on statistical software adoption behavior and found that statistics anxiety had a significant negative impact on perceived usefulness and ease of use and behavioral intentions of statistical software, which is an important part of statistics class.

Method to alleviate anxiety?
Several studies focused on the psychological availability of instructor to students. Huang and Mayer (2016) integrated a pedagogical agent in a computer-based statistics class, which provided insights into reducing statistics anxiety in online learning environments.
